Jack Wrangler - July 11, 1946 (Los Angeles, California) - 2009

Jack Wrangler (born John Robert Stillman) was one of the most iconic figures of vintage gay porn. Wrangler worked extensively in gay and straight adult films, and is the subject of a 2008 documentary.

The son of a television producer, Wrangler was raised in Hollywood, acted on television when young, got a theater degree from Northwestern University, moved to New York and got work as a stage actor and dancer, and took up the pseudonym Jack Wrangler when performing in a strip show in 1970. He continued to use this pseudonym when he moved into starring in gay porn (and later straight porn).

Wrangler cultivated his image and worked on marketing himself. He went on live performance tours (one of which is captured in the '80s MEN series video Jack Wrangler: His Own Story, a spoof documentary/performance document). He co-wrote an autobiography and starred in a one-man off-Broadway show.

After retiring from adult films, he again moved back to theater as a producer and writer. Wrangler was seemingly interested in men and women, but didn't particularly use labels to describe himself. At age 47, he married female singer Margaret Whiting, age 69 (22 years his senior). They worked together on her cabaret acts and remained married until Wrangler's death in 2009.
